Ghulam Ahmad's worship

You would expect anyone claiming to be a prophet or divine reformer in Islam to set the ultimate example when it comes to basic religious duties. Things like mastering the Quran, leading prayers, and fulfilling the core pillars of the faith should be a given. Yet, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad’s own family and close companions recorded a completely different reality.

In Seeratul Mahdi, the biography compiled by his son, we learn that Ghulam Ahmad actually neglected several foundational Islamic practices. He didn't memorise large sections of the Quran, he didn't lead his followers in prayer, and he never performed Hajj or paid Zakah. Below are the direct admissions from his inner circle detailing exactly what was missing from his religious life.

Did Not Memorise Long Surahs

"Dr. Mir Muhammad Ismail sahib ne mujh se bayaan kiya keh Hazrat Masih Ma'ood Alaihis Salam ko Quran Majeed ke barey barey musalsal hissay ya bari bari suratein yaad na theen. Beshak aap Quran ke jumla matalib par haawi thay magar hifz ke rang mein Quran Shareef ka aksar hissa yaad na tha."

Translation:
"Dr. Mir Muhammad Ismail Sahib narrated to me that the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) did not have large continuous portions or large Surahs (chapters) of the Holy Quran memorized. Undoubtedly, he had full command over all the meanings of the Quran, but in terms of rote memorization (hifz), the majority of the Holy Quran was not memorized by him."

Did Not Lead Salah

"Dr. Mir Muhammad Ismail sahib ne mujh se bayaan kiya keh ek dafa kisi waja se Maulvi Abdul Kareem sahib marhoom namaz na parha sakay. Hazrat Khalifa-tul-Masih Awwal (ra) bhi maujood na thay. To Hazrat Sahib ne Hakeem Fazal-ud-Din sahib marhoom ko namaz parhanay ke liye irshad farmaya. Unhon ne arz kiya keh Huzoor to jaantay hain keh mujhe bawasir ka marz hai aur har waqt reeh kharij hoti rehti hai. Main namaz kis tarah se parhaoon? Huzoor ne farmaya Hakeem sahib aap ki apni namaz bawajood is takleef ke ho jati hai ya nahin? Unhon ne arz kiya. Haan Huzoor. Farmaya keh phir hamari bhi ho jaye gi. Aap parhaiye.

Khaksar arz karta hai keh bimari ki waja se ikhraj-e-reeh jo kasrat ke saath jari rehta ho, nawaqiz-e-wuzu mein nahin samjha jata."

Translation:
"(654) Dr. Mir Muhammad Ismail Sahib narrated to me that once, for some reason, the late Maulvi Abdul Kareem Sahib could not lead the prayer. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih I (ra) was also not present. So, Hazrat Sahib instructed the late Hakeem Fazal-ud-Din Sahib to lead the prayer. He submitted, 'Your Holiness knows that I suffer from the disease of piles, and wind continuously passes all the time. How can I lead the prayer?' His Holiness said, 'Hakeem Sahib, despite this ailment, is your own prayer valid or not?' He submitted, 'Yes, Your Holiness.' He (His Holiness) said, 'Then ours will be valid too. You lead it.'

The humble one [the author] submits that the continuous passing of wind in abundance due to an illness is not considered among the nullifiers of ablution (wuzu)."

Did Not Perform Hajj, I'tikaaf, or Give Zakah

"Dr. Mir Muhammad Ismail sahib ne mujh se bayaan kiya ke Hazrat Masih Maood alaihis-salam ne hajj nahi kiya. I'tikaaf nahi kiya. Zakat nahi di. Tasbeeh nahi rakhi.....Aur zakat is liye nahi di ke aap kabhi sahib-e-nisaab nahi huay."

Translation:
"(672) Dr. Mir Muhammad Ismail narrated to me that the Promised Messiah (peace be upon him) did not perform Hajj, did not sit in I'tikaaf, did not give Zakat, and did not keep a tasbeeh.......And he did not give Zakat because he never became Sahib-e-Nisaab (reached the minimum threshold of wealth qualifying one to pay Zakat)."

- (Seeratul Mahdi, Vol. 1, pp. 623-624, Narration 672)

The official reason Ghulam Ahmad never paid Zakah is that he supposedly never reached the minimum wealth threshold (Nisab). Looking at his lifestyle, that is incredibly hard to believe. The Nisab amount is actually very low.

Meanwhile, he was constantly publishing adverts offering huge cash rewards to his opponents. He regularly put up bounties of thousands of rupees for anyone who could beat him in a debate, match his Arabic, or find mistakes in his books. He also lived on a comfortable estate and collected a steady stream of financial donations (Chanda) from his followers.

The numbers just do not add up. You cannot offer massive cash prizes to your rivals while claiming you are too poor to pay a mandatory charity. It raises serious questions about his financial honesty.

This issue gets even worse when you look at authentic Islamic prophecies about the second coming of Isa Ibn Maryam. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) stated in Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim that when the true Messiah descends, wealth will be so abundant that no one will even accept charity. Yet the man claiming to be this Messiah argued he was too poor to pay Zakah.

The Prophet (ﷺ) also explicitly stated that the Messiah will perform the major pilgrimages. Sahih Muslim (Hadith 1252a) records:

"By Him in Whose Hand is my life, the son of Mary will certainly invoke the name of Allah for Hajj or for Umrah, or for both, in the valley of Rawha."

Ghulam Ahmad never performed Hajj or Umrah. The true Messiah is meant to perform the pilgrimage, and during his time there will be overflowing wealth. Ghulam Ahmad did not get to see the lands outside of India, and claimed poverty when it came to Zakah. These basic facts completely contradict the prophecies and prove he cannot be the Messiah foretold by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
